An example for Munich’s ugly architectural heritage
from the Nazis, at the same time a place where an infamous chapter of
European history had been written: In this building Hitler, Mussolini,
Chamberlain and Daladier sealed the fate of Czechoslovakia in the fall
of 1938 by first dismembering its western parts and in March 1939 occupying
the rest of the country while Great Britain and France stood by idly.
Both the “Führerbau” and its almost identical counterpart on the other
side of Brienner Straße, the “Verwaltungsbau” (Administrative Building)
are housing educational institutions today . Where once Hitler started
to set the world on fire, now the students of the academy of music train
their skills.
