In order to acclimate to the appropriate pace of
our tour, let’s start with a break at the Park-Café’s beer garden (self-service).
What’s the difference between it and many others, for instance the much
more famous one at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden? It’s smaller,
closer to the center of the city (just a hop from the main railway station)
and has a diverse attendance of tourists and ordinary residents or commuters
on the way to their trains with only one common and noble aim: To drink
their “Maß”, “Weißbier” or “Radler” in peace, chatting or just looking
out at the Old Botanical Garden, a neatly kept park (therefore the name
of the restaurant). It’s a place to experience the genuine Bavarian
way of life without lederhosen and yodeling all the time. A more practical
but nonetheless good reason to come here are - hush! - the tidy bathrooms.
